چکیده

Using the inherent structure formalism originally proposed by Stillinger and Weber @Phys. Rev. A 25, 978 ~1982!#, we generalize the thermodynamics of an energy landscape that has an ideal glass transition and derive the consequences for its equation of state. In doing so, we identify a separation of configurational and vibrational contributions to the pressure that corresponds with simulation studies performed in the inherent structure formalism. We develop an elementary model of landscapes appropriate for simple liquids that is based on the scaling properties of the soft-sphere potential complemented with a mean-field attraction. The resulting equation of state provides an accurate representation of simulation data for the Lennard-Jones fluid, suggesting the usefulness of a landscape-based formulation of supercooled liquid thermodynamics. Finally, we consider the implications of both the general theory and the model with respect to the so-called Sastry density and the ideal glass transition. Our analysis shows that a quantitative connection can be made between properties of the landscape and a simulation-determined Sastry density, and it emphasizes the distinction between an ideal glass transition and a Kauzmann equal-entropy condition. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1566943#

بررسی اثر استفاده از معادله حالت گاز حقیقی بر شبیه سازی انفجار و کالیبراسیون تجربی معادله حالت

The high-expensive empirical analysis of blast waves motivates the researchers to investigate the explosion using numerical simulations. The literature shows that the computational fluid dynamics predicts the blast wave behavior accurately. Meanwhile, many methods such as the turbulence method, and the method of applying the explosion energy to the equations were presented to increase the accur...

Folding funnels and energy landscapes of larger proteins within the capillarity approximation.

The characterization of protein-folding kinetics with increasing chain length under various thermodynamic conditions is addressed using the capillarity picture in which distinct spatial regions of the protein are imagined to be folded or trapped and separated by interfaces. The quantitative capillarity theory is based on the nucleation theory of first-order transitions and the droplet analysis ...

Introduction of a Novel Two-Dimensional Equation of State to Predict Gas Equilibrium Adsorption in Highly-Nonideal Systems

Abstract The accurate calculations of adsorption equilibrium for multicomponent gas systems are of great importance in many applications. In this paper, five two-dimensional equations of state 2D-EOS, i.e. Van der Waals, Eyring, Zhou-Ghasem-Robinson, Soave-Redlich-Kwong and Peng-Robinson, were examined to find out their abilities to predict adsorption equilibrium for pure and multi-component ga...

Identification of RNA-binding sites in artemin based on docking energy landscapes and molecular dynamics simulation

There are questions concerning the functions of artemin, an abundant stress protein found in Artemiaduring embryo development. It has been reported that artemin binds RNA at high temperatures in vitro, suggesting an RNA protective role. In this study, we investigated the possibility of the presence of RNA-bindingsites and their structural properties in artemin, using docking energy ...

Model Energy Landscapes

The multidimensional potential-energy “landscape” formalism offers useful insights into the properties of supercooled liquids and glasses. However, its mathematical fundamentals present formidable subtlety and complexity. In the interests of developing a useful approximation for the statistical mechanics of landscapes, we have developed a simple family of models describing the energy-depth dist...
